The 5 Best Low-Cal Protein Shakes

For all of you twinks out there who love going to the gym but hate high calorie protein shakes with all of the added junk, here are some great ones you can make yourself along instead of spending 6 dollars a drink at Smoothie King!

 

Peanut Butter Chocolate

This is my go-to drink! Add a scoop of chocolate protein powder to a blender (I personally have the Gladiator protein from Smoothie King, but you can use whatever you like). Add 10 ounces of skim milk or water, a teaspoon of peanut butter, and about 10 ice cubes! It’s packed with protein and low in calories! Add a banana for tastier goodness!

Strawberry

This delicious protein shake is made with about ten strawberries, ten ounces water or skim milk, two tablespoons of fat-free vanilla yogurt, one scoop of any flavor protein, and a couple handfuls of ice cubes! Choco-strawberry, strawberry-vanilla, the possibilities are endless! Try adding a handful of chopped up bananas or mangos for a tropical taste that stays low in calories!

Creamsicle

The word “cream” in a low-cal article might throw you off, but the recipe is actually pretty simple and light on the waist! Add 5 oz orange juice and 5 oz of water or skim milk to a banana, two scoops of vanilla protein powder, some ice, and some non-fat vanilla yogurt for thickness!

Coffee

For a protein shake with some energy, grab an iced coffee, either from Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbucks, or your own made at home. Pour it all into your blender (ice included), add a scoop of protein (the choice of flavor is up to you), a couple ounces of non-fat milk, water, or almond milk and you’re golden!

Thin Mint

I know all of you twinks are dying for some Girl Scout cookies right now! For help to keep on your diet and exercise routine without eating a whole box of cookies in five minutes while watching Pitch Perfect, try this shake! Start with your base of milk or water, add a scoop of chocolate protein powder, add a couple drops of mint extract (if you don’t have mint extract, drop in a peppermint), add your usual dose of ice, blend it up, and enjoy!

 

All of these recipes can be altered however you want! These are simply bases to grow on and you can invent your own low-cal,  lean muscle-growing smoothie treat!
